Managing object roles

The object roles determine the responsibilities that you have on specific catalog assets, such as glossaries or models.

Predefined object roles

There are several predefined object roles:

Object Administrator Producer You have all capabilities associated with the object roles on all objects in the repository.

This role is created by default on a new or migrated installation for the Administrators group to migrate properly.

You can propose and edit changes to the metadata for the assigned assets and terminology.

Data Custodian Producer You collect and hold information on behalf of a data provider or requester. You are responsible for managing the use, disclosure and protection of data.
Content Technical Steward Producer You are the main technical point of contact to ensure that the content is harvested and stitched properly. You are also the point of contact for harvesting issues.

View Restricted Consumer You can view the metadata for portions of the repository which is restricted for other users. When assigning this role to a repository object, that object and its contained objects cannot have the Metadata Viewer permissions for Everyone. In addition, assigning this role to the repository root or any folder in the repository allows you to then assign restricted viewing permissions to their contained folders or content. In that way, you may assign viewing restrictions to a subset of users allowed at a higher level in the repository folder structure. By default, Metadata Viewer permission is assigned on the repository root for Everyone.
Information noteNote: The list of global roles above is provided by default for new installations only. If you have upgraded from an earlier version you may not see all of these and may see others which were migrated. You may still import the list of global roles above which are in the installation path at <TDC_HOME>/conf/Roles/GlobalRoles.csv.

You can customize these predefined object roles or create new object roles based on them.

Object roles and Producer/Consumer types

A Talend Data Catalog license provides Producer and Consumer user types. By default, all users are Consumer users.

If you are assigned to a role with capabilities associated with a Producer type such as Object Administrator, you are counted as a Producer on the license side.

If you are assigned to a role with capabilities associated with a Consumer type such as Data User, you are counted as a Consumer on the license side.
