Populating a glossary with a model

Use an existing model that is well documented to populate a glossary. The glossary terms and relationships are based on the structure of the source model.

Before you begin

  • You have been assigned an object role with the Metadata Management capability.
  • You have verified that the model used to populate the glossary is imported.
  • You have verified that the glossary is empty.

Procedure

  1. Open the object page of the glossary model.
  2. Click the More actions menu.
  3. Click Bootstrap from model.
  4. Select the source model and click OK.
  5. In the Generate files only, specify if you want to create the objects directly in the glossary.
    • Select No to create the objects directly in the glossary.
    • Select Yes to create a set of CSV files which can be imported into the glossary later. This action is useful if you want to edit the contents of those files before importing and it does not create the objects in the glossary.
  6. If necessary, you can create semantic links between the glossary and the source model.
    Semantic link Action
None Select None to not create links back to the source model.
Term Documentation Select Term Documentation to create a term classification link between the glossary terms and the data objects of the source model. It allows you to visualize the semantic lineage to and from the terms and data objects from the Semantic Flow tab.

Select the Overwrite existing term documentation links checkbox to overwrite any existing term documentation of the model data objects.

Semantic Mapping Select Semantic Mapping to create a semantic mapping between the glossary terms and the data objects of the source model. It allows you to visualize the semantic lineage to and from the terms and data objects from the Semantic Flow tab

Type in a name for the semantic mapping.

  7. Click IMPORT.
If the operation succeeded, open and review the glossary.
If the operation failed, open the log messages and correct the source model file accordingly.
